EU Plans New Import Restrictions on China Targeting Chemicals, Furniture, and Machinery

October 26, Fineko/abc.az. The European Union is preparing to introduce safeguard measures to curb imports from China across key sectors, including chemicals, furniture, and machinery, aiming to narrow its €360 billion trade deficit with Beijing.

The proposed restrictions—which may take the form of import quotas or tariffs—are expected to take effect in the first quarter of 2027.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed that the EU is responding to industry calls for protection. The move follows a previous agreement capping Chinese hybrid vehicle imports into the EU at 350,000 units annually.
