Gold Drops Below $4,000: High Oil Prices Press Precious Metal to 3-Month Lows

10:19 - 26.10.2026

October 26, Fineko/abc.az. Gold traded near three-month lows following a 4.1% drop last week, with spot gold settling at $3,995.42 per ounce and US gold futures at $4,007.45, breaking below the critical $4,000 psychological threshold for the first time since mid-July.

The decline was largely driven by surging crude oil prices amid Middle East conflict escalation, which threatens to prolong inflationary pressures and restrict central banks from cutting interest rates. High bond yields and expectations of the US Federal Reserve maintaining higher rates—with markets pricing in a 78% chance of a rate hike in December—continue to weigh on non-yielding bullion.

Among other precious metals, silver stood flat at $53.94 per ounce, while platinum dropped 0.5% to $1,544.97.
