October 21, Fineko/abc.az. Interest in selling insurance products is gradually decreasing in Azerbaijan. This is evidenced by the reduction in the number of insurance agents.
Economist Namig Huseynov says that if at the end of 2021 there were 730 insurance agents in the country, then by the end of 2025 their number declined to 468.
"Thus, the drop made up 35.9% in four years. Meanwhile, our insurance market grew by 78.3% during this period. If 843.9 million manats of insurance premiums were collected in 2021, then in 2025 this figure reached 1.504 billion manats. In other words, the insurance market is growing, and insurance agents are "disappearing," he said.
The expert also spoke about the possible causes of this trend.
"Most likely, this is due to the fact that the sale of insurance products is increasingly carried out online, and the digitalization of the sector continues to expand. In addition, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan is gradually tightening the requirements for agents, especially in terms of reporting. As a result, mediators either voluntarily cease operations, not seeing prospects in this market, or their licenses are forcibly revoked," Huseynov explained.
