October 14, Fineko/abc.az. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned in its latest Fiscal Monitor report that escalating borrowing costs are severely straining public finances in heavily indebted nations.
According to IMF projections, global public debt is on track to exceed 100% of global GDP by 2030, reaching levels last observed in the immediate aftermath of World War II.
Between February and September, average 10-year sovereign bond yields across G7 economies rose by more than 1 percentage point, touching 20-year highs. The average borrowing cost for governments is expected to climb from 2.3% in 2021 to 3.7% by 2031. The IMF stressed that rising debt service costs are directly shrinking fiscal space needed for essential public investment and social spending.
